Despite Perth being home to 620 schools finding nothing short of the very best primary schools in the city can be a challenge. One reason it is challenging isn’t that there are so many schools but because finding the ideal school takes time and effort for parents whose kids have reached the primary school age.

When searching for the best primary schools in Perth, it is essential to note that state-owned and government schools make up a pretty substantial portion of schools. Sure, there are Catholic schools that account for a fair number of primary schools in the city, in addition to a small number of private schools. Plus, you need to consider that more than 85% percent of primary schools offer coeducation with around 15% of boys only or girls-only schools.

Now that you know what to expect from all the primary schools in Perth, we’ll go over the best ones in our opinion below.

South Perth Primary School

South Perth Primary School is a coeducational primary school that’s located in Forrest Street, in Southern Perth. Originally founded over a hundred years back in 1833, the goal of the school was to provide education to the then increasing popularity of the growing city. Today, South Perth Primary School is amongst the oldest and most reputed in the city.

Later, to make sure that all students were taken care of, the school joined the B4 Coalition, an organization meant to support high-quality learning and care for kids in the region starting from infancy to the age of 8. The school has said that they strive to ensure that students are provided a highly conducive learning environment that nurtures their natural talents.

Even though the school gives students many different opportunities to learn, it also ensures that they are fluent in multiple languages like Chinese. In order to ensure fluency in multiple languages, students start learning Chinese from grades 3 to 6. The lessons are streamed from China over the internet.

South Perth Primary School

The curriculum here is early learning from years 1-6, along with teaching music, Japanese language, drama, digital technology, physical education, English as an Additional Language, etc.

It is a fully independent public school. Founded over a hundred years ago in 1898, it started with barely a few dozen students. The school is located in South Perth’s Forrest Street, in Western Australia. The school provides an excellent Early Learning environment that’s stimulating and comfortable for students of all ages. Students are encouraged to explore and learn.

Students at South Perth Primary School are encouraged to participate in both non-academic and academic programs designed to enhance their learning ability. At present, students from years 1-6 are provided with Drama, Japanese Language, Music, and Physical Education, in addition to many other extra-curricular activities.

Apart from being considered as one of the best primary schools in Perth, it does have a downside that everyone needs to know about. In order for students to be eligible for admission into the school, they need to be residents in the local catchment area. That said, the school’s website is where you can find out if where you live falls into that area.

The school offers some of the best, if not the best facilities, including a very well equipped arts and science lab, along with computer rooms, climbing areas, and sports facilities. In fact, we’d go so far as to say that it is the epitome of high-quality learning.

North Perth Primary School

Like South Perth Primary School, North Perth Primary School was established over a hundred years ago in 1899. It is amongst the oldest primary schools in Perth and even in Western Australia as a whole. The school is located prominently at Albert Street, North Perth. The primary school caters to children from Kindergarten to year 6. Though similar to South Perth Primary School, North Perth Primary School only accepts applications for admission from students within the catchment zone. You can find the zone listed on their official website.

Highgate Primary School

Highgate Primary School, located on Lincoln Street, offers primary education in a coeducational environment. Founded back in 1895, with just 80 students at that time, today it one of the best primary schools in the city thanks in part to the sublime academic performance over the past decades.

Highgate Primary School offers students a Department of Education approved curriculum. However, that (standard curriculum) is accompanied by the best learning facilities so that students can thrive in fields like sciences, drama, sports, engineering, music, and languages.

At present, the school enrolls around 713 students from over 70 different countries, with 60 students attending their Intensive English Program.

Mindarie Primary School

It is an independent public primary school located in Rothesay Heights. The Primary School only enrolls residents of the nearby the catchment area.

Established in 1997, with just 175 students in Pre-Primary to Year 7, it at present caters to slightly under 700 students. It is amongst the best primary schools that the region has to mainly because of its strong curriculum. Speaking of the curriculum, it focuses on areas like literacy and numeracy, which happen to be two of the most important basis for performance. The school also offers Specialist programs in music, arts, performing arts, science, and the Primary Extension Challenge (PEAC) for students who are academically talented from years 4-6.

Today primary schools in Perth will cater to pupils from Kindergarten all way up to year 6. We think that your best bet is to always send your child to a school, which makes learning easy via its facilities. Also, if your child’s present school isn’t on our list, it does not mean that the school is bad because all schools need to comply with the standards set by the Department of Education.

You should always visit a few schools before shortlisting and making up your mind on the best one for your child. While it does take time and effort, it is well spent considering that the primary school is often the basis of what your child ends up achieving.
